To enhance productivity and efficiency in live projects, we need dynamic Named Boundaries linked to Geometry. This includes the ability to update the shape or location of a named boundary after creating a sheet model, with the changes reflected in the model.
Key features could include:
Linking XS Named Boundaries to Alignment station and alignment 3D origin point, allowing updates on Geometry change based on original parameters. This could include individual named boundary overrides for L/R offset, top/bottom distances, etc.
Plan and Profile Named Boundaries could work similarly, with the start of Named Boundaries linked to the end of the previous ones. This would maintain the link on alignment change if the user has locked to the start and end of the geometry.
At a minimum, editable offset, height, etc. would be an improvement over current update method. This could be achieved with graphical manipulators like MicroStation Clipping Boundaries but with editable values.
A dialog informing the user that base geometry has changed, with prompts like “Do you want to reannotate Drawings for Named Boundary Group XYZ?” and a “Named Boundary XYZ has lost link to its Base Geometry link”. A “Named Boundary Base Geometry Reattach” tool could be used to relink it.
Renaming Named Boundaries
Rescaling Named Boundaries
Change profile Named Boundary after creation
Additionally, making Cross Section Named Boundaries dynamic and relative to the alignment would be beneficial. This would allow the Cross Section Named Boundary to show updated information (existing topo, crossing utilities, right-of-way, etc.) whenever there are changes in the geometry/alignment. Currently, any changes in alignment/stationing require regeneration of Named Cross Section Boundary/sheets, as they are fixed in the 3D space.

This is a combination of multiple user ideas. We've merged the ideas to reduce the number of similar ideas. The original ideas still exist in our database.
Thanks!
Strongly agree with some of the previous comments. When a client or PM asks for something simple like vertical exaggeration or offsets to be changed, the only method currently available is to completely redo the named boundaries. This is extremely costly in terns of billed hours, especially if sheets have already been created and annotated.
Please make a matchline dynamic and with the ability to slide along the alignment for fine tuning.
I would say the biggest issue with named boundaries is when match line limits are changed the named boundaries do not update correctly. On large projects sheets are shifting quit often. Currently when plan view named boundaries are edited the software moves the references in the drawing models and keeps the old boundary xy location, which causes users a lot of anxiety. Coordinates and labels could be off if not caught. Profile named boundary limits can not be moved at all after creation. Which is difficult and expensive as users have to recut profiles if a match line is changed.
Personally, I would happy to have named boundaries fixed so the boundaries could be moved and all sheets update automatically. I am not that concerned about having the boundaries be dynamic and linked to alignments etc...
would like to see boundaries to work in grid mode for site plans, with overlap optional. Better yet, could recognize adjacent boundaries for matchline notation - maybe a composite f horizontal or vertical alignments that could be made as a grid
Thanks admin for combining this idea into one place. However, is there any status update on whether or not this idea will be implemented?
